You may know Rufus as the best friend of a certain little dragon, but he is also really close with Zaria, you know? So I thought I’d show you how you can easily incorporate a sweet little bird into your unicorn quilt. Just because… π

A few notes before we start
- You will need the following quilt patterns:
- The unicorn and flower quilt: Unicorn Garden (get the pdf or printed booklet)
- The bird detail: Little Crow (get the pdf)
- The fabric requirements for the quilt top are basically those of Unicorn Garden. Just have some extra scraps at hand for the bird.
Sewing your unicorn and bird quilt
- Instead of the bb piece of your Unicorn Garden pattern, prepare the following three background pieces:

- Make a large, right-facing bird block following the Little Crow pattern.

- RST, sew your BG1 piece to the left of your bird block and press your seam towards the BG1 piece.
- RST, sew your BG2 piece to the right of your bird block and press your seam towards the BG2 piece.
- RST, sew your BG3 piece to the top of your bird unit from step 4 and press your seam towards the BG3 piece.

- Follow the Unicorn Garden pattern using the bird section above instead of a plain bb background piece.
And that’s it! Pretty straight forward, eh?! I can’t wait to see all your sweet unicorn and bird friends! π
Your patterns are so amazing! Thank you for doing a unicorn, it’s perfect for a quilt for my niece for Christmas!
Thanks Moriah!
I really enjoyed working on this pattern! It was a challenge, but a fun one!
