At the end of last year I had the honour of testing Lindsey’s (Pen + Paper Patterns) latest quilt pattern. “Fresh as a daisy” – the name itself is already so incredibly sweet and of course, the pattern also doesn’t disappoint and is just as good as Lindsey’s previous creations!
The original pattern uses 16 daisy blocks for the baby size and 25 for the throw size, but since I did not have the capacity to make an entire quilt, I only made one single block, added a border and turned it into a pillow cover. And even though I massively scaled down the project size, I didn’t want to compromise on the finishing details. So I went for a covered zipper across the back (I may also not have had a matching zipper at hand) and while quilting the pillow top I outlined the flower petals with hand stitches and used French knots to accentuate the flower centre. Those little bobbles were a new quilting experiment, but if I may say so, I think they turned out pretty cool, eh?! 😎 For the rest of the quilting I decided to use the machine and just do straight lines along the border.
Since I started doing chunky hand-bindings I have been planning on once stitching it on backwards to feature those big stitches on the front of the quilt and this time I finally did. And I love the look just as much as I anticipated!
While I was trying to take a picture of the finished pillow cover, Timo was constantly sabotaging my shot – until I turned him into my assistant. And look at that little angel, nobody would know!
I had chosen the fabrics with our living room as final destination in mind, but after styling the pillow on the window board in our bedroom to get another picture, I’m not so sure any more where Mr. Daisy is going to live…
Anyway, the pattern released today, so if you like a good floral quilt pattern, don’t hesitate and grab yourself a copy here!
