Before officially moving on to fall I think I need to hang on to summer for just a little moment and share a project with a bright sunshine colour palette…
The daytime temperatures here in Ontario have still been calling for shorts and sandals those last few days and while I had certainly noticed that the trees had started to turn yellow, it was not until driving through the country yesterday to visit some friends that I noticed to what extend the fall colours are already dominating the scene. We saw so many beautiful shades, bright yellows and rich reds. I’m not sure if I’m ready for fall, but it sure was stunning to watch! Now I’m sitting at the dining table watching the rain outside and munching trail mix while trying to get into the mood of the changing season… 😉
If you have been following my blog this pattern will most likely seem familiar to you. Yes, it is identical to my previous mini quilt except for some accent colour triangles which I added to the design. I actually finished this little guy already a few weeks ago, but now I finally managed to stop at the hardware store to get a wooden dowel to hang it… And this pointy mini pepper plant which I couldn’t walk past on my way to the checkout had to act as a spontaneous photo prop. Aren’t the two such a happy combo?! I also found some wild sunflowers close to our house, ha, so pretty!
Having predominantly worked with solids lately, the bright prints made for a nice change. I particularly love the floral binding – and the look of the back for which I used this lightest mint colour. Maybe I’ll call it a reversible wall hanging and switch it back and forth once in a while… 🤣
I had considered hand quilting it, but then thought that the quilt was busy enough with the different prints and opted for a more subtle machine quilting. In order to enhance the centre star I chose an x-like shape and echoed the lines until it was all filled.
I am not an embroidery artist but I can do a basic back stitch. And I really like the personal and rustic touch that a little hand-stitched label adds to a quilt back!
So, dear Rose, I hope you like your new home accessory and find a nice spot for it! 💛

Hello Astrid,
We are finally back in Edmonton and have settled into our usual routine. It’s amazing to think this gorgeous wall hanging has been to Russia and back, ha ha!
I have found the perfect place to hang this wonderful gift that you created for me! I am hanging it in the kitchen near the big window so everyone has a chance to enjoy it.
Again, many thanks for the beautiful gift!
Love, Rose
